Narrative:
The radar coverage offered by the d-brite system at pdk is inadequate. Tags and targets, both primary and secondary, are dropped from one moment to the next, often losing both at same time. Frequently, while working busy traffic, controllers are unable to issue timely traffic alerts because all targets have suddenly disappeared. Due to the amount of traffic at pdk, this is creating a safety problem. For the past several months, we have repeatedly brought this to the attention of airway facilities, whose standard reply is they can't do anything about it.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CTLR COMPLAINT ABOUT THE D-BRITE RADAR DROPPING TAGS AND TARGETS FROM TIME TO TIME. AIRWAY FACILITIES SAYS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT.
Narrative: THE RADAR COVERAGE OFFERED BY THE D-BRITE SYS AT PDK IS INADEQUATE. TAGS AND TARGETS, BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY, ARE DROPPED FROM ONE MOMENT TO THE NEXT, OFTEN LOSING BOTH AT SAME TIME. FREQUENTLY, WHILE WORKING BUSY TFC, CTLRS ARE UNABLE TO ISSUE TIMELY TFC ALERTS BECAUSE ALL TARGETS HAVE SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF TFC AT PDK, THIS IS CREATING A SAFETY PROB. FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, WE HAVE REPEATEDLY BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTN OF AIRWAY FACILITIES, WHOSE STANDARD REPLY IS THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
