Narrative:
After selecting 'gear up' on takeoff, the mains came up normally but the nose 'in transit' light remained illuminated. We also heard a dull 'thud' from the cockpit floor. We cycled the gear down, 3 green, then recycled with the same anomalous result. We advised ATC that we would need vectors to return, the reason, and that we would 'not' be declaring an emergency. We executed all checklists and discussed our options prior to landing normally at mco. The aircraft was then taken to the hangar and repaired.
