Narrative:
During takeoff between 70 KTS and V1, I heard a loud thump. At this time passenger started screaming to stop. I aborted the takeoff and cleared the runway. At that time my first officer said the cabin door was open. I had no annunciator lights indicating that the door was open at any time. There was substantial damage to the door but no injuries to any of the 8 passenger who were deplaned safely. It is standard procedure by a ramper to shut the door of the BA31. In this instance the door was shut by a ramper to conserve heat. My first officer acknowledged the door was closed and I verified this by no door light on the annunciator panel. It is my failing to ensure the door was closed by a crew member and by trusting the door caption. It was later found that the door warning circuit breaker was popped. Supplemental information from acn 321878: I have no idea why the door opened. Everything checked good on preflight. The only thing I can figure is the system was faulty, or I may have been rushed and didn't check the system properly.
