Narrative:

While flying jammn 1 arrival into slc, landing north, I was supposed to cross parre intersection at 10000 ft. Near jammn intersection I was cleared direct to ffu at 11000 ft. I was then cleared for approach to runway 34R so I descended to 10000 ft and leveled off to wait on GS and localizer. I later noticed that I was to cross gimme intersection at 11000 ft. The new charts are confusing since the jammn 1 calls for 10000 ft at parre and the approach chart calls for gimme intersection at 11000 ft. Approaching gimme the controller cleared us for a visual approach. These are new charts since we have a new runway at slc. There was no conflict and the controller said nothing about us at 10000 ft. I will bring this confusing situation up to our people who handle ATC problems. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the captain was flying a B757- 200 when he discovered the conflict between the jammn 1 and the approach to runway 34R at slc. The approach plate for the ILS to runway 34R shows the IAF altitude as 11000 ft yet the jammn 1 SID shows an expected crossing altitude at parre of 10000 ft. Parre is approximately 7 NM short of the IAF (gimme). In this case, the flight crew went to 10000 ft in preparation for the approach and as they neared gimme a ridge of higher terrain caused their GPWS to activate. They were in visual conditions at the time and knew that they would comfortably clear the ridge. After they had passed the ridge the GPWS kept sounding until it was disabled by the flight crew.

Title: PUB DEFICIENCY -- THE JAMMN 1 SID TO SLC HAS A NOTE TO EXPECT TO CROSS PARRE AT 10000 FT IF LNDG TO THE N YET THE IAF (GIMME) FOR RWY 34R HAS AN ALT OF 11000 FT.

Narrative: WHILE FLYING JAMMN 1 ARR INTO SLC, LNDG N, I WAS SUPPOSED TO CROSS PARRE INTXN AT 10000 FT. NEAR JAMMN INTXN I WAS CLRED DIRECT TO FFU AT 11000 FT. I WAS THEN CLRED FOR APCH TO RWY 34R SO I DSNDED TO 10000 FT AND LEVELED OFF TO WAIT ON GS AND LOC. I LATER NOTICED THAT I WAS TO CROSS GIMME INTXN AT 11000 FT. THE NEW CHARTS ARE CONFUSING SINCE THE JAMMN 1 CALLS FOR 10000 FT AT PARRE AND THE APCH CHART CALLS FOR GIMME INTXN AT 11000 FT. APCHING GIMME THE CTLR CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH. THESE ARE NEW CHARTS SINCE WE HAVE A NEW RWY AT SLC. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT AND THE CTLR SAID NOTHING ABOUT US AT 10000 FT. I WILL BRING THIS CONFUSING SIT UP TO OUR PEOPLE WHO HANDLE ATC PROBS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE CAPT WAS FLYING A B757- 200 WHEN HE DISCOVERED THE CONFLICT BTWN THE JAMMN 1 AND THE APCH TO RWY 34R AT SLC. THE APCH PLATE FOR THE ILS TO RWY 34R SHOWS THE IAF ALT AS 11000 FT YET THE JAMMN 1 SID SHOWS AN EXPECTED XING ALT AT PARRE OF 10000 FT. PARRE IS APPROX 7 NM SHORT OF THE IAF (GIMME). IN THIS CASE, THE FLC WENT TO 10000 FT IN PREPARATION FOR THE APCH AND AS THEY NEARED GIMME A RIDGE OF HIGHER TERRAIN CAUSED THEIR GPWS TO ACTIVATE. THEY WERE IN VISUAL CONDITIONS AT THE TIME AND KNEW THAT THEY WOULD COMFORTABLY CLR THE RIDGE. AFTER THEY HAD PASSED THE RIDGE THE GPWS KEPT SOUNDING UNTIL IT WAS DISABLED BY THE FLC.
