Narrative:
Kitfox called lvk ATCT over san antonio reservoir (approximately 7 NM south) with ATIS for landing runway 25L. I (kitfox) was told to report entering downwind runway 25L. Skyhawk called lvk ATCT 'over the golf course' for landing runway 25L. After determining that skyhawk was over the sunol golf course (8 NM southwest) lvk ATCT told skyhawk to report entering downwind runway 25L. Both kitfox (me) and skyhawk were notified of each other. I kept raising and lowering my wings during descent in an attempt to see skyhawk but without success. Since I did not have skyhawk in sight, I descended slightly below pattern altitude as I crossed the quarry and artificial lake 2 NM southwest of the lvk airport. I was just about to call entering downwind runway 25L when skyhawk passed directly overhead and announced entering downwind runway 25L 'ahead of the kitfox.' I then announced entering downwind runway 25L over the quarry and that the skyhawk had just passed over me. Lvk ATCT rogered and cleared me #2 to land runway 25L after the skyhawk, who flew a very wide pattern.

Title: 2 ACFT ENTERING LNDG PATTERN AT CLASS D ARPT, ONE BELOW PATTERN ALT, THE OTHER OVERFLEW HIM AND RPTED ENTERING PATTERN. RPTR CLRED #2, AND APPARENTLY FELT 'CUT OUT.' AMBIGUOUS.
Narrative: KITFOX CALLED LVK ATCT OVER SAN ANTONIO RESERVOIR (APPROX 7 NM S) WITH ATIS FOR LNDG RWY 25L. I (KITFOX) WAS TOLD TO RPT ENTERING DOWNWIND RWY 25L. SKYHAWK CALLED LVK ATCT 'OVER THE GOLF COURSE' FOR LNDG RWY 25L. AFTER DETERMINING THAT SKYHAWK WAS OVER THE SUNOL GOLF COURSE (8 NM SW) LVK ATCT TOLD SKYHAWK TO RPT ENTERING DOWNWIND RWY 25L. BOTH KITFOX (ME) AND SKYHAWK WERE NOTIFIED OF EACH OTHER. I KEPT RAISING AND LOWERING MY WINGS DURING DSCNT IN AN ATTEMPT TO SEE SKYHAWK BUT WITHOUT SUCCESS. SINCE I DID NOT HAVE SKYHAWK IN SIGHT, I DSNDED SLIGHTLY BELOW PATTERN ALT AS I CROSSED THE QUARRY AND ARTIFICIAL LAKE 2 NM SW OF THE LVK ARPT. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO CALL ENTERING DOWNWIND RWY 25L WHEN SKYHAWK PASSED DIRECTLY OVERHEAD AND ANNOUNCED ENTERING DOWNWIND RWY 25L 'AHEAD OF THE KITFOX.' I THEN ANNOUNCED ENTERING DOWNWIND RWY 25L OVER THE QUARRY AND THAT THE SKYHAWK HAD JUST PASSED OVER ME. LVK ATCT ROGERED AND CLRED ME #2 TO LAND RWY 25L AFTER THE SKYHAWK, WHO FLEW A VERY WIDE PATTERN.
