Narrative:
Coming out of sdl on a vector to avoid traffic ATC asked us to turn RNAV direct to santa flight engineer. We set the turn but did not turn the airplane immediately and the controller said we had almost compromised separation with a B737 on an arrival into phx. Due to a strong wind from our left, we had apparently drifted much closer to the path of the B737 than the controller anticipated.

Title: FLC DELAY IN TAKING THE TURN AND HDG ASSIGNMENT CAUSES THE CTLR'S ESTABLISHED SEPARATION TO BE THREATENED.
Narrative: COMING OUT OF SDL ON A VECTOR TO AVOID TFC ATC ASKED US TO TURN RNAV DIRECT TO SANTA FE. WE SET THE TURN BUT DID NOT TURN THE AIRPLANE IMMEDIATELY AND THE CTLR SAID WE HAD ALMOST COMPROMISED SEPARATION WITH A B737 ON AN ARR INTO PHX. DUE TO A STRONG WIND FROM OUR L, WE HAD APPARENTLY DRIFTED MUCH CLOSER TO THE PATH OF THE B737 THAN THE CTLR ANTICIPATED.
