Narrative:

During the flight to reposition a newly purchased aircraft from dal to cmh with an intermediate stop at luk, ATC made numerous inquiries concerning the aircraft altitude. Reporting indicated 300-700 ft low. After changing xponders, all reporting of altitude appeared to be correct. Each time ATC made an inquiry, the aircraft was at the assigned altitude.

Title: FLC AND ATC EXPERIENCE NEW ACFT WITH FLAWED ENCODING ALTIMETER.

Narrative: DURING THE FLT TO REPOSITION A NEWLY PURCHASED ACFT FROM DAL TO CMH WITH AN INTERMEDIATE STOP AT LUK, ATC MADE NUMEROUS INQUIRIES CONCERNING THE ACFT ALT. RPTING INDICATED 300-700 FT LOW. AFTER CHANGING XPONDERS, ALL RPTING OF ALT APPEARED TO BE CORRECT. EACH TIME ATC MADE AN INQUIRY, THE ACFT WAS AT THE ASSIGNED ALT.
