Narrative:
50 NM north atl at FL330, advised by #1 flight attendant we may have a medical emergency, passenger was passed out, very pale and non-responsive. Started looking for a divert city, atl WX 1/4 mi fog. Also suggested making an announcement for qualified medical personnel. A registered medical nurse, rn, responded. Initial report, pulse weak, breathing labored. Put on oxygen. At XA44 #1 flight attendant reported passenger still very weak and pale, breathing labored, probably a medical emergency. At XA45 declared a medical emergency with ZTL, started toward sav, 140 mi away. Best WX, good tailwind. At XA46 talked directly with rn. She reported passenger appears drunk, smells of alcohol, traveling companion reluctantly volunteers information on heavy partying. Believes situation stabilized. Passenger responsive, talking, does not feel it is a life threatening situation. At XA47, canceled emergency with ZTL, told them medical emergency situation is stabilized and non-threatening. Request routing to mia and terminate emergency. Personally went back to check out situation, talked with mr passenger, his traveling companions, rn and flight attendants. After being satisfied situation was non-critical, non life-threatening, made a PA to passenger and told them situation is under control and proceeding to mia. As soon as within radio range of mia, contacted mia operations requesting paramedics meet aircraft, that they come up rear stairs to assist mr passenger lying down in row. Also requested a passenger service representative meet aircraft to help assist passenger who was traveling on to panama to connection at XB33, backed-up call to dispatcher, relaying all pertinent information and situation under control. Landed mia at XA55, arrived at gate. Once aircraft secured, left flight deck, went up aft stairs to check out situation. Mia emt's just leaving, said passenger ok. Talked once again to rn and flight attendants. All agreed once situation became clear, passenger responding, color returning, no longer a medical emergency. Thanked rn, gave her a bottle of champagne and had passenger service representative upgrade her to first class on our air carrier to montego bay. Mia passenger representative did a good job as well as flight attendants.
