Narrative:

First officer flying cleared to 9000 ft MSL. Passed buj VOR and given heading of 240 degrees at xa:00Z and 6 DME west of buj altitude alert sounded at 8700 ft MSL. Reversed descent at 8650 ft MSL and returned to 9000 ft MSL assigned altitude. No traffic on TCASII within 5 mi or 1000 ft. Flight engineer was doing before landing checklist and I was tuning and identing localizer and ADF.
