Narrative:

Approach assigned heading of 150 degrees to intercept localizer to runway 11 at oak. We were in IMC experiencing intermittent moderate turbulence due to the severe winter storm that had entered the bay area earlier in the evening. We were given clearance to descend from 3000 ft to 2500 ft MSL and to maintain 2500 ft until established on the localizer. At 2700 ft we received GPWS warning for terrain and initiated go around thrust and an immediate climb. We notified approach, intercepted the localizer and were reclred for the approach. Approach mentioned on the telephone that they had numerous GPWS warnings reported by other aircraft due probably to the abnormal WX and high winds. We vacated assigned altitude to comply with GPWS with no conflicts with other aircraft.
