Narrative:
Departed mbj for msp. Just prior to leveloff, engine fire warning #1 engine came on. Captain turned the aircraft over to me, worked with the so following the communication procedures, shut down engine #1, fired both fire bottles but the fire warning light remained on. We declared an emergency with havana center, requested lower and a turn back to mbj which we received. After captain finished the emergency checklist he took over control of the aircraft and we returned and landed safely at mbj. Other than the fire warning bell and light we had no other fire warning indication both on the instruments and visually. After landing the B loop of the fire detection system was found to have a short in it causing the false fire indication warning.
