Narrative:
Cruising at 11000 ft MSL, phl-jfk in VMC. Received ATC TA for traffic at 12 O'clock. TCASII showed 1 aircraft at 11:30 (1500 ft above) and another aircraft at 12:30 (500 ft above). I spotted both aircraft at about 10 mi but unable to determine type of aircraft or direction of movement. No help from ATC. Within seconds, 11:30 traffic dropped to my altitude or slightly above while approaching us at high speed. Started climbing left turn to go above rapidly descending 11:30 traffic. Gained 300-500 ft very quickly and missed both aircraft by very short distances and altitudes. Center came back and said 2 A10's had just left frequency in that vicinity. Either both pilot's didn't see us (not likely) or decided to play 'chicken.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATC ADVISORY ABOUT 2 ACFT IN FRONT OF RPTR ACFT. 1 ACFT DROPPED TO RPTR ACFT ALT AND APCHED AT HIGH SPD WHEN RPTR TOOK EVASIVE ACTION. ATC WAS NO LONGER IN CONTACT WITH OTHER ACFT WHICH WERE MIL A10'S. RPTR SUSPECTS THE INTERCEPT WAS INTENTIONAL.
Narrative: CRUISING AT 11000 FT MSL, PHL-JFK IN VMC. RECEIVED ATC TA FOR TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK. TCASII SHOWED 1 ACFT AT 11:30 (1500 FT ABOVE) AND ANOTHER ACFT AT 12:30 (500 FT ABOVE). I SPOTTED BOTH ACFT AT ABOUT 10 MI BUT UNABLE TO DETERMINE TYPE OF ACFT OR DIRECTION OF MOVEMENT. NO HELP FROM ATC. WITHIN SECONDS, 11:30 TFC DROPPED TO MY ALT OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE WHILE APCHING US AT HIGH SPD. STARTED CLBING L TURN TO GO ABOVE RAPIDLY DSNDING 11:30 TFC. GAINED 300-500 FT VERY QUICKLY AND MISSED BOTH ACFT BY VERY SHORT DISTANCES AND ALTS. CTR CAME BACK AND SAID 2 A10'S HAD JUST LEFT FREQ IN THAT VICINITY. EITHER BOTH PLT'S DIDN'T SEE US (NOT LIKELY) OR DECIDED TO PLAY 'CHICKEN.'
