Narrative:

What a farce, the training of contract controllers. The contract controllers at ipt received about 25 percent of the training that FAA controllers would have received. The training is being given with no consideration of meaningful traffic conditions. FAA controllers with no previous FAA ratings take 4-6 months of training before a rating. FAA controllers with an FAA tower rating from another tower take 80 hours of OJT before a rating at ipt. A contract controller at ipt was checked out in 36 hours with 5 percent moderate and the rest light traffic. The others will be checked out with only 15-20 percent moderate traffic conditions with about 60 hours of total OJT time. It seems the FAA has let safety become second to other factors, too bad for the flying public.
