Narrative:
I was in level flight at 8500 ft MSL on V208, approximately 30 DME west of eed VOR and in contact with ZLA (receiving VFR radar advisories) for flight from ifp to myf. I observed a twin engine aircraft (type not recognized) at 8-9 O'clock at my altitude. When first observed, the other aircraft was probably 1/4 mi from me on a converging course, overtaking me. I thought that the twin would overtake and intersect my route in front of me, but judged that we would when there was 1000 or so ft of separation. I took evasive action (steep turn to the left) and passed behind the twin. The twin never showed any indication that I was observed by it. The center controller told me that he did not observe the other aircraft on radar. I gave the controller relative position and distance from me (1 O'clock and 1/2 mi at 8500 ft) and the controller still did not locate my traffic on radar.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BTWN AN SMA SEL AND AN SMT TWIN ON AN AIRWAY AT A VFR ALT AND IN A REMOTE UNCONGESTED AREA. THE SEL HAD NO FLT PLAN, BUT RECEIVING TA'S AND THE OTHER ACFT VFR WITH NO FLT FOLLOWING OR RADAR RETURN.
Narrative: I WAS IN LEVEL FLT AT 8500 FT MSL ON V208, APPROX 30 DME W OF EED VOR AND IN CONTACT WITH ZLA (RECEIVING VFR RADAR ADVISORIES) FOR FLT FROM IFP TO MYF. I OBSERVED A TWIN ENG ACFT (TYPE NOT RECOGNIZED) AT 8-9 O'CLOCK AT MY ALT. WHEN FIRST OBSERVED, THE OTHER ACFT WAS PROBABLY 1/4 MI FROM ME ON A CONVERGING COURSE, OVERTAKING ME. I THOUGHT THAT THE TWIN WOULD OVERTAKE AND INTERSECT MY RTE IN FRONT OF ME, BUT JUDGED THAT WE WOULD WHEN THERE WAS 1000 OR SO FT OF SEPARATION. I TOOK EVASIVE ACTION (STEEP TURN TO THE L) AND PASSED BEHIND THE TWIN. THE TWIN NEVER SHOWED ANY INDICATION THAT I WAS OBSERVED BY IT. THE CTR CTLR TOLD ME THAT HE DID NOT OBSERVE THE OTHER ACFT ON RADAR. I GAVE THE CTLR RELATIVE POS AND DISTANCE FROM ME (1 O'CLOCK AND 1/2 MI AT 8500 FT) AND THE CTLR STILL DID NOT LOCATE MY TFC ON RADAR.
