Narrative:
We (the crew) made several unsuccessful attempts to contact newark ground control while on the FBO ramp. We received no response from our xmissions and assumed we were in a poor radio coverage area. We then moved the aircraft forward onto what, the commercial chart indicated, was a ramp area. At which time, ground control advised us that we were on taxiway south. Contributing factors: I feel that the commercial airport diagram for newark international is unclr as to where the ramp ends and the taxiway begins, there are no obvious airport signs to indicate the taxiway near FBO ramp, and our inability to get a response from newark ground.

Title: CAPT OF A CPR JET FAILED TO CONTACT TWR PRIOR TO TAXIING ON AN ACTIVE TXWY AT A LARGE ARPT TXWY COMPLEX.
Narrative: WE (THE CREW) MADE SEVERAL UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT NEWARK GND CTL WHILE ON THE FBO RAMP. WE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM OUR XMISSIONS AND ASSUMED WE WERE IN A POOR RADIO COVERAGE AREA. WE THEN MOVED THE ACFT FORWARD ONTO WHAT, THE COMMERCIAL CHART INDICATED, WAS A RAMP AREA. AT WHICH TIME, GND CTL ADVISED US THAT WE WERE ON TXWY S. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: I FEEL THAT THE COMMERCIAL ARPT DIAGRAM FOR NEWARK INTL IS UNCLR AS TO WHERE THE RAMP ENDS AND THE TXWY BEGINS, THERE ARE NO OBVIOUS ARPT SIGNS TO INDICATE THE TXWY NEAR FBO RAMP, AND OUR INABILITY TO GET A RESPONSE FROM NEWARK GND.
