Narrative:
On an IFR flight plan, I was assigned an initial altitude of 1600 ft. After takeoff in visual conditions, I did not receive clearance to continue climbing as expected. I delayed this 'intermediate level off' and exceeded the altitude assigned by 300 ft.

Narrative: ON AN IFR FLT PLAN, I WAS ASSIGNED AN INITIAL ALT OF 1600 FT. AFTER TKOF IN VISUAL CONDITIONS, I DID NOT RECEIVE CLRNC TO CONTINUE CLBING AS EXPECTED. I DELAYED THIS 'INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OFF' AND EXCEEDED THE ALT ASSIGNED BY 300 FT.
