Narrative:
While in the dulles approach control area, I was flying IFR in IMC and had heard no communication for approximately 3 mins. Approximately 15-20 mins later ice began building from moderate to severe icing. On U39 approximately 45 NM from lns I descended in VFR and continued VFR to lns. Air below was warmer and ice came off. Conditions in lns were clear.

Title: RPTR FLIES IFR IMC INTO SEVERE ICING AND LOSES COM WITH APCH CTL. THE RPTR BECAME VFR AND REMAINED VFR AS PER LOST COM PROCS. THE RPTR GOT INTO WARMER AIR.
Narrative: WHILE IN THE DULLES APCH CTL AREA, I WAS FLYING IFR IN IMC AND HAD HEARD NO COM FOR APPROX 3 MINS. APPROX 15-20 MINS LATER ICE BEGAN BUILDING FROM MODERATE TO SEVERE ICING.
