Narrative:

Upon departure from griffith airport 05C I retracted the landing gear of a C310G and heard a loud noise in the nose gear area. I lowered the gear and did a fly by where ground personnel reported the mains down and the nose semi-retracted. I tried a manual extension with no success. I burned off remaining fuel and landed. The nose gear failed and the airplane skidded on its nose causing minor damage. I became aware that my medical certificate had expired. I realized the aircraft registration had expired beyond a 90 day temporary and 120 day extension. I renewed my medical certificate on feb/xx/96 and reapplied for a registration. The failure was due to an adjustment in the landing gear.
