Narrative:
Made 3 touch-and-goes at mhr with my son as the right seat passenger. We noticed, while we were on downwind, a pickup truck parked next to an antenna on the south side of the field. (I remember the truck being jet black, my son thinks it was red.) on the fourth touch-and-go, I landed on centerline, but drifted about 30 ft to the left of centerline on runway 22 during the takeoff. Suddenly, I saw the pickup starting to cross the runway ahead of me. I applied right rudder and swerved to the right, crossing the centerline to avoid hitting the truck. After entering the runway, the driver of the truck must have seen my aircraft, because he suddenly braked and stopped the vehicle. After taking off, I departed the pattern, contacted sac approach, and returned to mcclellan for additional touch-and-goes. During each of the lndgs at mather, I announced my intentions, in accordance with aim radio procedures at uncontrolled airports, on crosswind, downwind, base, and final. I did not make any calls while actually on the runway, but had announced intention for a touch-and- go while on final. I had landing, strobe, position and navigation lights all on. After landing at mcclellan, I notified the supervisor of flying for FBO of the incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A GA PLT PERFORMING TOUCH-AND-GO LNDGS ALMOST HITS A PICKUP TRUCK THAT CROSSES THE RWY DURING HIS LNDG TKOF ROLL.
Narrative: MADE 3 TOUCH-AND-GOES AT MHR WITH MY SON AS THE R SEAT PAX. WE NOTICED, WHILE WE WERE ON DOWNWIND, A PICKUP TRUCK PARKED NEXT TO AN ANTENNA ON THE S SIDE OF THE FIELD. (I REMEMBER THE TRUCK BEING JET BLACK, MY SON THINKS IT WAS RED.) ON THE FOURTH TOUCH-AND-GO, I LANDED ON CTRLINE, BUT DRIFTED ABOUT 30 FT TO THE L OF CTRLINE ON RWY 22 DURING THE TKOF. SUDDENLY, I SAW THE PICKUP STARTING TO CROSS THE RWY AHEAD OF ME. I APPLIED R RUDDER AND SWERVED TO THE R, XING THE CTRLINE TO AVOID HITTING THE TRUCK. AFTER ENTERING THE RWY, THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK MUST HAVE SEEN MY ACFT, BECAUSE HE SUDDENLY BRAKED AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. AFTER TAKING OFF, I DEPARTED THE PATTERN, CONTACTED SAC APCH, AND RETURNED TO MCCLELLAN FOR ADDITIONAL TOUCH-AND-GOES. DURING EACH OF THE LNDGS AT MATHER, I ANNOUNCED MY INTENTIONS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH AIM RADIO PROCS AT UNCTLED ARPTS, ON XWIND, DOWNWIND, BASE, AND FINAL. I DID NOT MAKE ANY CALLS WHILE ACTUALLY ON THE RWY, BUT HAD ANNOUNCED INTENTION FOR A TOUCH-AND- GO WHILE ON FINAL. I HAD LNDG, STROBE, POS AND NAV LIGHTS ALL ON. AFTER LNDG AT MCCLELLAN, I NOTIFIED THE SUPVR OF FLYING FOR FBO OF THE INCIDENT.
