Narrative:
Flight had been delayed 2 hours for WX at first stop point. Finally we were released to go direct to second stop point. This required a new release. Release was late arriving. We already had our fuel, passenger and bags. When release arrived, I realized it had the wrong aircraft number. I called dispatch to correct mistake. Instead of being relieved I'd found an error before we pushed, I should have looked closer. The date was the wrong day, month, and yr. I had attempted to take my time to keep something like this from happening. Abnormal operations seem to generate 'gotchas.' I should have been looking for more than one.
