Narrative:

The captain was flying the aircraft. We had been cleared to the navasota VOR on the struk 8 arrival into houston hobby airport. About 15 mi from tnv the approach controller called up and told us we were 'north of course' and to take up a heading of 190 degrees and resume the struk 8 arrival. Since we had been cleared direct to tnv we were not flying the arrival course. The controller's comment made it sound as if we should be flying the arrival course. After complying with the southerly heading the arrival and approach were normal.
