Narrative:
We were arriving to msp via the eau claire 1 arrival. Radar vectors for spacing were given followed by instructions to proceed direct to eau VOR. The captain then inadvertently proceeded on a course direct to msp VOR. The error was simultaneously noticed by ourselves and ATC. We passed 10-15 NM south of eau VOR and joined the arrival west of the VOR.
