Narrative:
Captain requested lower altitude from FL330 and center cleared us to descend to FL240. Captain read back clearance to FL240 and first officer acknowledged and set 24000 ft in altitude alerter. Passing FL286 center called and said to level at FL290. We responded by climbing back to FL290. Center then cleared us to FL260. Center said there was a miscom, and that he originally wanted us to go to FL290 from FL330. Supplemental information from acn 329991: he said we were cleared to FL290 and that it was a miscom on both our parts.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B727 ACR FLC RPTED THAT THEY RECEIVED A CLRNC TO DSND TO FL240. AS THEY WERE DSNDING THROUGH FL286, THE CTLR INTERVENED AND TOLD THEM TO MAINTAIN FL290. THE CTLR STATED THAT HIS ORIGINAL INTENTION WAS TO HAVE THE B727 DSND FROM FL330 TO FL290.
Narrative: CAPT REQUESTED LOWER ALT FROM FL330 AND CTR CLRED US TO DSND TO FL240. CAPT READ BACK CLRNC TO FL240 AND FO ACKNOWLEDGED AND SET 24000 FT IN ALT ALERTER. PASSING FL286 CTR CALLED AND SAID TO LEVEL AT FL290. WE RESPONDED BY CLBING BACK TO FL290. CTR THEN CLRED US TO FL260. CTR SAID THERE WAS A MISCOM, AND THAT HE ORIGINALLY WANTED US TO GO TO FL290 FROM FL330. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 329991: HE SAID WE WERE CLRED TO FL290 AND THAT IT WAS A MISCOM ON BOTH OUR PARTS.
