Narrative:
Originally assigned FL200, told to descend to FL180. About 10 mins later we were told to descend to 17000 ft. Leaving FL180 we set local altimeter (30.66) and leveled at 17000 ft. Before leveling at 17000 ft, controller asked what our altitude was. With the new (high) local altimeter setting the altimeter showed 18000 ft. I told him we were 'descending through 18000 ft.' a couple of mins later they told me to call the ZTL supervisor by phone about a possible 'pilot deviation.' callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states he was flying the brasilia. He was given a number to call and did so but nobody at the facility knew of any problem or violation. He called 2 or 3 times after talking to the first controller and no problem was discovered. It may have been that the controller thought he had not descended as cleared when reporter gave his altitude. He did receive a heading change which he feels may have been for traffic. He has heard nothing further.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BRASILIA FLC ON DSCNT MAKES ALTIMETER CHANGE AT FL180. LCL ALTIMETER WAS VERY HIGH AND THOUGH DSNDING, THE ALTIMETER SHOWED 180. ATC REQUESTED ALT THEN TOLD FLC TO CALL AT DEST.
Narrative: ORIGINALLY ASSIGNED FL200, TOLD TO DSND TO FL180. ABOUT 10 MINS LATER WE WERE TOLD TO DSND TO 17000 FT. LEAVING FL180 WE SET LCL ALTIMETER (30.66) AND LEVELED AT 17000 FT. BEFORE LEVELING AT 17000 FT, CTLR ASKED WHAT OUR ALT WAS. WITH THE NEW (HIGH) LCL ALTIMETER SETTING THE ALTIMETER SHOWED 18000 FT. I TOLD HIM WE WERE 'DSNDING THROUGH 18000 FT.' A COUPLE OF MINS LATER THEY TOLD ME TO CALL THE ZTL SUPVR BY PHONE ABOUT A POSSIBLE 'PLTDEV.' CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES HE WAS FLYING THE BRASILIA. HE WAS GIVEN A NUMBER TO CALL AND DID SO BUT NOBODY AT THE FACILITY KNEW OF ANY PROB OR VIOLATION. HE CALLED 2 OR 3 TIMES AFTER TALKING TO THE FIRST CTLR AND NO PROB WAS DISCOVERED. IT MAY HAVE BEEN THAT THE CTLR THOUGHT HE HAD NOT DSNDED AS CLRED WHEN RPTR GAVE HIS ALT. HE DID RECEIVE A HDG CHANGE WHICH HE FEELS MAY HAVE BEEN FOR TFC. HE HAS HEARD NOTHING FURTHER.
