Narrative:

The trip started simply. It was by all means going to be an easy day. All the ingredients were there: the captain was a gem. The flight attendant was nice and upbeat. The day was for this company -- a treat. Short on duty and long on block. Even the WX was super. The captain was/is going through a divorce. His story: the company, who his wife also works as a flight attendant for, displaced him. She is senior and doesn't want to move. He obviously is junior and doesn't want to commute. All day he was saying how much he missed the kids. We had to repos (taxi) the plane from gate to hard stand, and then after about an hour back. He went in, I stayed out. When he came back it was late and his 2 boys were with him. They jumped up front and didn't want to leave. I thought, 'we are part 91, what are the chances of anyone minding.' at the gate was an FAA inspector. He minded a lot. He said he was riding and sat in the cockpit, obviously pissed. Made me so nervous I messed up weight and balance, leaving him off. He said 3 words the whole trip and at the end told captain he was going to tell our poi. In retrospect, I should have been in the cockpit though nothing in our books addresses part 91 taxi without passenger.
