Narrative:

Flight plan called for a turn over bross intersection toward woodstown on J42. The copilot missed the turn and I did not notice the 235 degree radial come alive. Center caught our oversight and we made positive correction back to the proper radial. The controller advised us that we were flying over the newark arrival route and that we were above an aircraft at FL240. My attention was distracted by the preparation of an in-flight announcement. The copilot was concentrating on a climb with an assigned airspeed of 310 KTS which slowed our ascent to 600-800 FPM. Just as our policy dictates no additional cockpit duties within 1000 ft of a new altitude, I shall devote 100 percent of my time to airway turns within 10 mi of the intersection.

Title: AN ACR FLC FORGOT TO TURN AND INTERCEPT J42 AS CLRED, BUT THE ARTCC RADAR CTLR REMINDED THEM 7 NM LATER.

Narrative: FLT PLAN CALLED FOR A TURN OVER BROSS INTXN TOWARD WOODSTOWN ON J42. THE COPLT MISSED THE TURN AND I DID NOT NOTICE THE 235 DEG RADIAL COME ALIVE. CTR CAUGHT OUR OVERSIGHT AND WE MADE POSITIVE CORRECTION BACK TO THE PROPER RADIAL. THE CTLR ADVISED US THAT WE WERE FLYING OVER THE NEWARK ARR RTE AND THAT WE WERE ABOVE AN ACFT AT FL240. MY ATTN WAS DISTRACTED BY THE PREPARATION OF AN INFLT ANNOUNCEMENT. THE COPLT WAS CONCENTRATING ON A CLB WITH AN ASSIGNED AIRSPD OF 310 KTS WHICH SLOWED OUR ASCENT TO 600-800 FPM. JUST AS OUR POLICY DICTATES NO ADDITIONAL COCKPIT DUTIES WITHIN 1000 FT OF A NEW ALT, I SHALL DEVOTE 100 PERCENT OF MY TIME TO AIRWAY TURNS WITHIN 10 MI OF THE INTXN.
