Narrative:
This report is to report that the runway end sign at the takeoff end of runway 17 at orlando international airport is not standard. The sign marking the end of runway 17 for full takeoff is an intersection sign! It reads H1 17-35 which indicates one is at the intersection of runway 17/35 and taxiway H-1. It should read H-1 17 which would indicate one is at the intersection of taxiway H-1 at the beginning of the full takeoff length of runway 17. The united states airport sign system requirements are very specific. The single number without hyphen is to mark the beginning of the takeoff end. For those of us whose operations specifications require full length takeoffs this is important. In a low visibility taxi situation it is possible for one to see the current sign and continue to taxi north on taxiway G or H while looking for the end of the runway. Such a situation would result in muddy wheels and a lot of paperwork. I strongly request this sign be changed to its proper form ie, blank out the hyphen and the number 35. See commercial route manual introduction section page 151 or airman's information manual.

Title: AN ACR PLT RPTS THAT THE RWY END SIGN AT THE TKOF END OF RWY 17 AT MCO IS NON-STANDARD.
Narrative: THIS RPT IS TO RPT THAT THE RWY END SIGN AT THE TKOF END OF RWY 17 AT ORLANDO INTL ARPT IS NOT STANDARD. THE SIGN MARKING THE END OF RWY 17 FOR FULL TKOF IS AN INTXN SIGN! IT READS H1 17-35 WHICH INDICATES ONE IS AT THE INTXN OF RWY 17/35 AND TXWY H-1. IT SHOULD READ H-1 17 WHICH WOULD INDICATE ONE IS AT THE INTXN OF TXWY H-1 AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FULL TKOF LENGTH OF RWY 17. THE UNITED STATES ARPT SIGN SYS REQUIREMENTS ARE VERY SPECIFIC. THE SINGLE NUMBER WITHOUT HYPHEN IS TO MARK THE BEGINNING OF THE TKOF END. FOR THOSE OF US WHOSE OPS SPECS REQUIRE FULL LENGTH TKOFS THIS IS IMPORTANT. IN A LOW VISIBILITY TAXI SIT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ONE TO SEE THE CURRENT SIGN AND CONTINUE TO TAXI N ON TXWY G OR H WHILE LOOKING FOR THE END OF THE RWY. SUCH A SIT WOULD RESULT IN MUDDY WHEELS AND A LOT OF PAPERWORK. I STRONGLY REQUEST THIS SIGN BE CHANGED TO ITS PROPER FORM IE, BLANK OUT THE HYPHEN AND THE NUMBER 35.
