Narrative:
During an afternoon arrival rush the ARTS iia failed. This was a total failure resulting in the radar displays going completely blank. Airport facility personnel failed to retrieve the 'memory dump' information from the automated printer log (ddas). They are required to do this to determine what happened. They did not, and we have no idea what happened to prevent it. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter indicated that the cause of the ARTS iia failure has not been determined. He stated that maintenance suspected a display as being the cause and have turned it off. Reporter said the ARTS was OTS for about 2 hours except when it returned to service for a brief period about 15 mins after the initial failure.
