Narrative:
Departing corona, ca, for santa barbara route of flight direct pomona VOR direct santa barbara (through chino class D airspace and ontario class C). I had established communication with chino tower before takeoff at corona and once airborne received a clearance to transit their class D airspace. I relayed that I would like a handoff to socal for further climb to 8500 ft (through the class C airspace starting at 2700 ft MSL). I attempted contact with socal, who replied with 'all aircraft standby.' inadvertently, I continued the climb. At 3100 ft I realized this, leveled off, turned wbound away from the primary airport (ontario) and established contact with socal. No traffic conflicts involved. No disciplinary response from socal. Pilot inattentiveness to altitude when a temporary level off was necessary, was the cause. Problem was not caused by the airspace system.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DEPARTING CORONA, CA, FOR SANTA BARBARA GOING DIRECT POMONA VOR, DIRECT SANTA BARBARA. THE RPTR HAD ESTABLISHED COM WITH CHINO PRIOR TO DEP FROM CORONA BUT COULD NOT ESTABLISH COM WITH ONTARIO APCH (SOCAL). IN THE PROCESS OF ATTEMPTING TO STANDBY INFLT THE RPTR ALLOWED HIS ALT TO CLB INTO THE CLASS C AIRSPACE BY 400 FT.
Narrative: DEPARTING CORONA, CA, FOR SANTA BARBARA RTE OF FLT DIRECT POMONA VOR DIRECT SANTA BARBARA (THROUGH CHINO CLASS D AIRSPACE AND ONTARIO CLASS C). I HAD ESTABLISHED COM WITH CHINO TWR BEFORE TKOF AT CORONA AND ONCE AIRBORNE RECEIVED A CLRNC TO TRANSIT THEIR CLASS D AIRSPACE. I RELAYED THAT I WOULD LIKE A HDOF TO SOCAL FOR FURTHER CLB TO 8500 FT (THROUGH THE CLASS C AIRSPACE STARTING AT 2700 FT MSL). I ATTEMPTED CONTACT WITH SOCAL, WHO REPLIED WITH 'ALL ACFT STANDBY.' INADVERTENTLY, I CONTINUED THE CLB. AT 3100 FT I REALIZED THIS, LEVELED OFF, TURNED WBOUND AWAY FROM THE PRIMARY ARPT (ONTARIO) AND ESTABLISHED CONTACT WITH SOCAL. NO TFC CONFLICTS INVOLVED. NO DISCIPLINARY RESPONSE FROM SOCAL. PLT INATTENTIVENESS TO ALT WHEN A TEMPORARY LEVEL OFF WAS NECESSARY, WAS THE CAUSE. PROB WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE AIRSPACE SYS.
