Narrative:
Departing arb, I declined the willow run 3 SID, was given a clearance for radar vectors to intercept the dtw 184 degree radial. Contacted approach, was vectored, intercepted the dtw 184 degree radial and turned on course. Dtw approach questioned me as to who told me to turn and immediately asked for a turn to 090 degrees. I complied. Controller later said I should not have intercepted the 184 degree radial on course until instructed. It was poor communication and understanding. I could have questioned or confirmed a turn on course. Controller could have stated the vector would be further for spacing.

Title: DEPARTING ARB THE RPTR WAS GIVEN A CLRNC FOR RADAR VECTORS TO INTERCEPT THE DTW 184 DEG RADIAL. UPON CONTACTING DEP CTL AFTER DEP THE RPTR WAS GIVEN VECTORS. THE RPTR, WHEN XING THE DTW 184 DEG RADIAL, INTERCEPTED DTW 184 DEG RADIAL. DTW APCH QUESTIONED THE RPTR TO LEARN WHO TOLD HER TO TURN AND IMMEDIATELY ASKED FOR A TURN TO 090 DEGS. THE CTLR LATER SAID THE RPTR SHOULD NOT HAVE INTERCEPTED THE 184 DEG COURSE UNTIL INSTRUCTED.

CONTACTED APCH, WAS VECTORED, INTERCEPTED THE DTW 184 DEG RADIAL AND TURNED ON COURSE. DTW APCH QUESTIONED ME AS TO WHO TOLD ME TO TURN AND IMMEDIATELY ASKED FOR A TURN TO 090 DEGS. I COMPLIED. CTLR LATER SAID I SHOULD NOT HAVE INTERCEPTED THE 184 DEG RADIAL ON COURSE UNTIL INSTRUCTED. IT WAS POOR COM AND UNDERSTANDING. I COULD HAVE QUESTIONED OR CONFIRMED A TURN ON COURSE. CTLR COULD HAVE STATED THE VECTOR WOULD BE FURTHER FOR SPACING.
