Narrative:
Aircraft was en route from cae to cvg. While being handled by ZTL aircraft was given a heading to intercept the sweed 2 arrival. Autoplt was engaged. Both pilots started doing required paperwork and were unaware aircraft did not intercept arrival. The aircraft flew approximately 10 mi past arrival when turn in was finally made. At this point ZTL questioned crew if they were picking up the arrival. Crew responded aircraft was picking up the arrival. Problem occurred as result of PF not monitoring the FMS system closely. A significant factor in this incident was that the crew was operating on less than 6 hours sleep because of a scheduled reduced rest overnight. Both crew members admitted to feeling 'fuzzy' and not well rested and sharp. I feel our judgement suffered as a direct result of a lack of rest and allowed this to happen.

Title: AN ACR FLC OF AN MDT JET FAILED TO INTERCEPT THE STAR ARR COURSE WHILE ON AN INTERCEPT HDG. THE FMS HAD BEEN PROGRAMMED, BUT THE AUTOPLT FAILED TO INTERCEPT THE STAR AND THE FLC DID NOT NOTICE. THE ARTCC CTLR INTERVENED WHEN THE ACFT WAS APPROX 10 MI PAST THE PUBLISHED COURSE.
