Narrative:
Airport reported by approach controller to be 2 O'clock and 8 mi. Visibility was reported to be 10 mi but was less southeast of airport. After flying another 2 mi, we saw a north/south runway and reported airport in sight. The instrument runway (runway 36L) was closed. My VOR was tuned to rqz and the first officer was on DCU. We were cleared for a visual approach to runway 36R. When I got a mi closer I realized I was at the wrong field. At 2200 ft and about 7 mi, I was told by tower at hxv that I was lined up for redstone aaf. I turned left and completed approach and landing on runway 36R at hsv. At first seeing the runway at redstone I thought that I saw a parallel runway which was possibly a road. Solution: a VOR at the field, and a note on the approach plate would also help.

Title: AN ACR FA28 FLC BEGAN A VISUAL APCH TO THE WRONG ARPT. THE CAPT (PF) THOUGHT THAT HE SAW A PARALLEL RWY, BUT WHEN HE GOT CLOSER, HE REALIZED THAT HE WAS AT THE WRONG FIELD. THE ATCT LCL CTLR INTERVENED AND THE PF TURNED L TOWARD THE CORRECT ARPT.
Narrative: ARPT RPTED BY APCH CTLR TO BE 2 O'CLOCK AND 8 MI. VISIBILITY WAS RPTED TO BE 10 MI BUT WAS LESS SE OF ARPT. AFTER FLYING ANOTHER 2 MI, WE SAW A N/S RWY AND RPTED ARPT IN SIGHT. THE INST RWY (RWY 36L) WAS CLOSED. MY VOR WAS TUNED TO RQZ AND THE FO WAS ON DCU. WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 36R. WHEN I GOT A MI CLOSER I REALIZED I WAS AT THE WRONG FIELD. AT 2200 FT AND ABOUT 7 MI, I WAS TOLD BY TWR AT HXV THAT I WAS LINED UP FOR REDSTONE AAF. I TURNED L AND COMPLETED APCH AND LNDG ON RWY 36R AT HSV. AT FIRST SEEING THE RWY AT REDSTONE I THOUGHT THAT I SAW A PARALLEL RWY WHICH WAS POSSIBLY A ROAD. SOLUTION: A VOR AT THE FIELD, AND A NOTE ON THE APCH PLATE WOULD ALSO HELP.
