Narrative:
Aircraft initially cleared to FL280. During climb aircraft was told to stop at FL240 as a final altitude. Altitude alerter was reset, but both pilots failed to reset altimeters to 29.92. Field setting at takeoff was 29.46. The communications occurred passing about 17000 ft, IMC and light turbulence. The prevention of a recurrence is to remain acutely aware of your altimeter setting.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT INITIALLY CLRED TO FL280. DURING CLB THROUGH FL180 IN IMC WITH LIGHT TURB, ACFT WAS TOLD TO STOP CLB AT FL240 AS A FINAL ALT. BOTH PLTS FAILED TO RESET ALTIMETERS TO 29 PT 92. THE ALTIMETER SETTING WAS 29 PT 46. THEREFORE, THE FLT ACTUALLY LEVELED AT FL245.
