Narrative:
On radar vector to ILS approach runway 26L atl, approach control assigned '230 degrees to intercept localizer, 2800 ft until redam, cleared for ILS approach runway 26L.' I (PNF) had tuned and idented redam LOM and ILS while on downwind. ADI annunciation showed GS capture and localizer armed. Before localizer captured, I changed HSI to ILS mode and observed no pointers visible. I confirmed loss of pointers on ADI and on first officer instrument panel. I rechked identify and got only static. I advised approach that runway 26L ILS was off the air. He replied that 'they must be changing things around.' he told us to dial in 110.1 and see if that was working. It was. I told first officer to navigation on FMC map display while I found runway 26R ILS page, confirmed frequency and identify. He was steering to the right of FMC representation of runway 26L ILS, so we got a bit to the right of the localizer for runway 26R, but corrected back. Broke out at 1000 ft AGL and completed uneventful landing. I sincerely believe the airport should check with approach control prior to shutting down approach navaids.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: APCH CTLR CLRED ACFT ON INTERCEPT HDG AND APCH FOR RWY 26L. UPON SETTING UP FOR THE APCH, RPTR CAPT NOTED THE RWY 26L ILS WAS OFF THE AIR. WHEN QUESTIONING APCH CTLR, THEY SWITCHED FLC TO INTERCEPT RWY 26R.
Narrative: ON RADAR VECTOR TO ILS APCH RWY 26L ATL, APCH CTL ASSIGNED '230 DEGS TO INTERCEPT LOC, 2800 FT UNTIL REDAM, CLRED FOR ILS APCH RWY 26L.' I (PNF) HAD TUNED AND IDENTED REDAM LOM AND ILS WHILE ON DOWNWIND. ADI ANNUNCIATION SHOWED GS CAPTURE AND LOC ARMED. BEFORE LOC CAPTURED, I CHANGED HSI TO ILS MODE AND OBSERVED NO POINTERS VISIBLE. I CONFIRMED LOSS OF POINTERS ON ADI AND ON FO INST PANEL. I RECHKED IDENT AND GOT ONLY STATIC. I ADVISED APCH THAT RWY 26L ILS WAS OFF THE AIR. HE REPLIED THAT 'THEY MUST BE CHANGING THINGS AROUND.' HE TOLD US TO DIAL IN 110.1 AND SEE IF THAT WAS WORKING. IT WAS. I TOLD FO TO NAV ON FMC MAP DISPLAY WHILE I FOUND RWY 26R ILS PAGE, CONFIRMED FREQ AND IDENT. HE WAS STEERING TO THE R OF FMC REPRESENTATION OF RWY 26L ILS, SO WE GOT A BIT TO THE R OF THE LOC FOR RWY 26R, BUT CORRECTED BACK. BROKE OUT AT 1000 FT AGL AND COMPLETED UNEVENTFUL LNDG. I SINCERELY BELIEVE THE ARPT SHOULD CHK WITH APCH CTL PRIOR TO SHUTTING DOWN APCH NAVAIDS.
