Narrative:
On departure PNF (new captain) didn't retract slats when called for. He was busy contacting departure control and receiving lengthy instructions. Also, I neglected to write down departure frequency during preflight, adding to his workload. The discrepancy wasn't caught until we began accelerating and noticed a rumbling at which time we retracted the slats. Contributing factors: 1) new captain and high workload. 2) steep climb and low airspeed which resulted no rumbling noise. 3) angle of sun causing glare, canceling out the slat extended light. 4) no flap/slat item on climb checklist.

Title: FLC FORGOT TO RETRACT SLATS AFTER TKOF. PNF WAS A NEW CAPT. THE FLT TOOK OFF NOT KNOWING THE DEP CTL FREQ. DEP CTL AFTER TKOF INSTRUCTIONS LENGTHY.
Narrative: ON DEP PNF (NEW CAPT) DIDN'T RETRACT SLATS WHEN CALLED FOR. HE WAS BUSY CONTACTING DEP CTL AND RECEIVING LENGTHY INSTRUCTIONS.
