Narrative:

While descending into mem on the walet arrival we inadvertently exceeded 250 KTS below 10000 ft for a few hundred ft. Realized error and reduced speed immediately. No word from approach, however, we had an FAA inspector in the jumpseat. Inspector did not debrief the problem at the gate. Appears we were distracted with a crossing restr and the removal of the published speed restr by the approach controller led to this error.
