Narrative:
Approaching arina at 11000 ft and 210 KIAS, approach advised us of traffic climbing out of dfw and we responded in sight. We watched him both visually and on TCASII. He appeared to climb through 10000 ft at which time we received a TCASII RA to climb. We complied with the RA and immediately as we were pitching up, the approach controller issued us a climb clearance to 12000 ft and a turn to a 170 degree heading. Our flight leveled at 12000 ft and was immediately cleared to 5000 ft as conflict was no longer present. Flight proceeded to landing with no further difficulties. First officer was the PF and did an outstanding job in a textbook manner. Supplemental information from acn 333819: we immediately disconnected autoplt and followed the TCASII RA commands. We observed the departure traffic climb through 10000 ft and possibly to our 11000 ft altitude.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD80 FLC RESPONDED TO A TCASII RA DURING THEIR ARR DSCNT INTO DFW. THE DEPARTING TFC HAD BEEN POINTED OUT TO THE FLC BY THE APCH CTLR. THE RPTING FO (PF) NOTED THAT THE TFC MIGHT HAVE CLBED UP TO THEIR ALT. THE CTLR ISSUED A CLB CLRNC AND A VECTOR AWAY FROM THE TFC JUST AS THE FLC INITIALLY RESPONDED TO THE RA.
Narrative: APCHING ARINA AT 11000 FT AND 210 KIAS, APCH ADVISED US OF TFC CLBING OUT OF DFW AND WE RESPONDED IN SIGHT. WE WATCHED HIM BOTH VISUALLY AND ON TCASII. HE APPEARED TO CLB THROUGH 10000 FT AT WHICH TIME WE RECEIVED A TCASII RA TO CLB. WE COMPLIED WITH THE RA AND IMMEDIATELY AS WE WERE PITCHING UP, THE APCH CTLR ISSUED US A CLB CLRNC TO 12000 FT AND A TURN TO A 170 DEG HDG. OUR FLT LEVELED AT 12000 FT AND WAS IMMEDIATELY CLRED TO 5000 FT AS CONFLICT WAS NO LONGER PRESENT. FLT PROCEEDED TO LNDG WITH NO FURTHER DIFFICULTIES. FO WAS THE PF AND DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB IN A TEXTBOOK MANNER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 333819: WE IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND FOLLOWED THE TCASII RA COMMANDS. WE OBSERVED THE DEP TFC CLB THROUGH 10000 FT AND POSSIBLY TO OUR 11000 FT ALT.
