Narrative:
Upon check-in with ord approach, we were told to expect runway 4R. Unfortunately, the PNF looked at the approach plate for runway 14R, and called for the navaids to be set accordingly, ie, runway 14R. Thence, we were given a vector to intercept runway 4R and cleared for the approach. Consequently, we flew through the localizer for runway 4R. Ord approach advised us as to our position. We then rechked the frequency and realized our error. Approach then advised a new heading to reintercept. We were then reclred for the approach and landed uneventfully. Low cockpit lighting may have contributed to this event.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE FO PNF TUNED IN THE WRONG ILS FREQ. THE FLT FLEW THROUGH THE ASSIGNED LOC RWY 4 AIMING TO THE ILS RWY 14.
Narrative: UPON CHK-IN WITH ORD APCH, WE WERE TOLD TO EXPECT RWY 4R. UNFORTUNATELY, THE PNF LOOKED AT THE APCH PLATE FOR RWY 14R, AND CALLED FOR THE NAVAIDS TO BE SET ACCORDINGLY, IE, RWY 14R. THENCE, WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR TO INTERCEPT RWY 4R AND CLRED FOR THE APCH. CONSEQUENTLY, WE FLEW THROUGH THE LOC FOR RWY 4R. ORD APCH ADVISED US AS TO OUR POS. WE THEN RECHKED THE FREQ AND REALIZED OUR ERROR. APCH THEN ADVISED A NEW HDG TO REINTERCEPT. WE WERE THEN RECLRED FOR THE APCH AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. LOW COCKPIT LIGHTING MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS EVENT.
