Narrative:
There is a continuous problem with false targets in all quadrants of our radar coverage at stl/T75. It is logged every day on our daily logs. Apparently nothing is being done. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter indicated that he believed that a ucr had been filed regarding the false beacon target presentation. He also stated that his union was pursuing this as a safety issue through their central region office. Supplemental information from acn 334508: the data blocks on our ASR-9 radar scopes at times will start to quiver and jiggle. The problem, according to maintenance, is old equipment and dirty switches. The fix? They have us rapidly FLIP the center/de-center switch.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATC RPTR CLAIMS THAT THE STL ASR-9 HAS A CONTINUOUS PROB WITH SECONDARY BEACON FALSE TARGETS THAT AFFECTS ALL QUADRANTS OF THEIR AIRSPACE. THE RPTR STATES THAT THIS PROB IS DOCUMENTED DAILY IN THE FACILITY'S 7230 PT 4.
Narrative: THERE IS A CONTINUOUS PROB WITH FALSE TARGETS IN ALL QUADRANTS OF OUR RADAR COVERAGE AT STL/T75. IT IS LOGGED EVERY DAY ON OUR DAILY LOGS. APPARENTLY NOTHING IS BEING DONE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR INDICATED THAT HE BELIEVED THAT A UCR HAD BEEN FILED REGARDING THE FALSE BEACON TARGET PRESENTATION. HE ALSO STATED THAT HIS UNION WAS PURSUING THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE THROUGH THEIR CENTRAL REGION OFFICE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 334508: THE DATA BLOCKS ON OUR ASR-9 RADAR SCOPES AT TIMES WILL START TO QUIVER AND JIGGLE. THE PROB, ACCORDING TO MAINT, IS OLD EQUIP AND DIRTY SWITCHES. THE FIX? THEY HAVE US RAPIDLY FLIP THE CTR/DE-CENTER SWITCH.
