Narrative:
On apr/xx/96 at approximately XA45 pm, I was instructed to taxi across all runways at taxiway C at oma airport. I noticed a B757 on short final for runway 35. It appeared close so I increased power to expedite my crossing. At that time the ground controller instructed me to expedite my taxi. I was still cleared to cross runway 35 and runway 32L. As I approached the edge of the runway the ground controller said something that sounded like, 'wait, turn around.' I did not hear my call sign. I also felt at that moment that it was getting too close. I applied immediate braking and instructed the tower that I was holding short. The B757 then went around at that point. The ground controller then cleared me to cross runway 35 and runway 32L. I apologized for the confusion. The controller said it was ok that it was not my fault. I taxied to the ramp without further incident. The B757 also landed without incident. I feel this could have been prevented if I had told the controller that I wanted to wait. ATC should also not have aircraft crossing runways when aircraft are on short final.

Title: WITH ACFT ON SHORT FINAL, GND CTLR TOLD RPTR PLT TO EXPEDITE TAXI ACROSS THE LNDG RWY. WHEN AT RWY EDGE THE TAXIING PLT DECIDED THE LNDG ACFT WAS TOO CLOSE AND STOPPED, WHILE THE LNDG ACFT EXECUTED A GAR.
Narrative: ON APR/XX/96 AT APPROX XA45 PM, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI ACROSS ALL RWYS AT TXWY C AT OMA ARPT. I NOTICED A B757 ON SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 35. IT APPEARED CLOSE SO I INCREASED PWR TO EXPEDITE MY XING. AT THAT TIME THE GND CTLR INSTRUCTED ME TO EXPEDITE MY TAXI. I WAS STILL CLRED TO CROSS RWY 35 AND RWY 32L. AS I APCHED THE EDGE OF THE RWY THE GND CTLR SAID SOMETHING THAT SOUNDED LIKE, 'WAIT, TURN AROUND.' I DID NOT HEAR MY CALL SIGN. I ALSO FELT AT THAT MOMENT THAT IT WAS GETTING TOO CLOSE. I APPLIED IMMEDIATE BRAKING AND INSTRUCTED THE TWR THAT I WAS HOLDING SHORT. THE B757 THEN WENT AROUND AT THAT POINT. THE GND CTLR THEN CLRED ME TO CROSS RWY 35 AND RWY 32L. I APOLOGIZED FOR THE CONFUSION. THE CTLR SAID IT WAS OK THAT IT WAS NOT MY FAULT. I TAXIED TO THE RAMP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE B757 ALSO LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I FEEL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF I HAD TOLD THE CTLR THAT I WANTED TO WAIT. ATC SHOULD ALSO NOT HAVE ACFT XING RWYS WHEN ACFT ARE ON SHORT FINAL.
