Narrative:
We were air carrier flight xyz. We departed dfw and regional departure assigned us 4000 ft. We were unaware that air carrier flight xxz was also on the frequency. We were told to climb to 17000 ft. Out of 5000 ft approach told us that we had left our assigned altitude of 4000 ft and that xxz was given the clearance to 17000 ft. My first officer and I both heard air carrier xyz cleared to 17000 ft and I read it back. Someone on air carrier xxz came on the frequency and said that they had never been cleared to climb. Similar sounding call signs strike again! I don't think any loss of separation occurred.

Title: THE CTLR SAID THE RPTR WAS NOT CLRED TO CLB BUT ANOTHER ACFT WITH A SIMILAR CALL SIGN WAS. THE RPTR AND HIS FO BOTH HEARD THE CLB INSTRUCTIONS WERE FOR THEM. THE PLT WITH THE SIMILAR CALL SIGN SAID HE HAD NOT BEE GIVEN THE CLB INSTRUCTIONS. THE CTLR SAID THE WRONG CALL SIGN.
Narrative: WE WERE ACR FLT XYZ. WE DEPARTED DFW AND REGIONAL DEP ASSIGNED US 4000 FT. WE WERE UNAWARE THAT ACR FLT XXZ WAS ALSO ON THE FREQ. WE WERE TOLD TO CLB TO 17000 FT. OUT OF 5000 FT APCH TOLD US THAT WE HAD LEFT OUR ASSIGNED ALT OF 4000 FT AND THAT XXZ WAS GIVEN THE CLRNC TO 17000 FT. MY FO AND I BOTH HEARD ACR XYZ CLRED TO 17000 FT AND I READ IT BACK. SOMEONE ON ACR XXZ CAME ON THE FREQ AND SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER BEEN CLRED TO CLB. SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGNS STRIKE AGAIN! I DON'T THINK ANY LOSS OF SEPARATION OCCURRED.
