Narrative:
Just prior to taking the runway for takeoff, aircraft behind us noticed an access panel open. The location indicated the outflow valve and no doors lights were on EICAS (none would be there for an open access panel). We proceeded to takeoff after telling the tower controller we felt it was the outflow valve. Upon arrival at pbi, I did my outside walkaround and noticed the potable water service access panel below the outflow valve was open. I believe it was probably what the other aircraft noticed. We were running 3 hours late and did a relatively quick turnaround. I did not notice the access panel open on my initial walkaround. I feel no danger was presented, but perhaps we should have returned to the ramp.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT WAITING CLRNC ON TO RWY WAS TOLD BY ACFT BEHIND THAT AN ACCESS PANEL WAS OPEN ON THEIR ACFT FUSELAGE. RPTR FLC DECIDED THAT, SINCE THEY HAD NO DOOR LIGHTS, IT PROBABLY WAS THE OUTFLOW VALVE THAT THE OTHER ACFT SAW AND TOOK OFF WITH THE POTABLE WATER ACCESS DOOR OPEN. DISCOVERED AFTER LNDG.
Narrative: JUST PRIOR TO TAKING THE RWY FOR TKOF, ACFT BEHIND US NOTICED AN ACCESS PANEL OPEN. THE LOCATION INDICATED THE OUTFLOW VALVE AND NO DOORS LIGHTS WERE ON EICAS (NONE WOULD BE THERE FOR AN OPEN ACCESS PANEL). WE PROCEEDED TO TKOF AFTER TELLING THE TWR CTLR WE FELT IT WAS THE OUTFLOW VALVE. UPON ARR AT PBI, I DID MY OUTSIDE WALKAROUND AND NOTICED THE POTABLE WATER SVC ACCESS PANEL BELOW THE OUTFLOW VALVE WAS OPEN. I BELIEVE IT WAS PROBABLY WHAT THE OTHER ACFT NOTICED. WE WERE RUNNING 3 HRS LATE AND DID A RELATIVELY QUICK TURNAROUND. I DID NOT NOTICE THE ACCESS PANEL OPEN ON MY INITIAL WALKAROUND. I FEEL NO DANGER WAS PRESENTED, BUT PERHAPS WE SHOULD HAVE RETURNED TO THE RAMP.
