Narrative:
After landing at bos runway 4R, we were cleared to turn left on runway 33L then to hold short of runway 4L and taxi behind our company DC9 approaching on taxiway north. We acknowledged. After being cleared by tower to cross runway 4L and follow the company DC9 on taxiway north and switch to ground control, we crossed runway 4L and were on runway 33L awaiting the DC9, but it was still a substantial distance to our right, and it appeared stopped. Since we were under power taxiing (after crossing runway 4L) I tried to contact ground per the captain's instructions, to advise ground that we would like to continue our taxi roll since we were far ahead of the DC9. Ground control frequency was very busy, so the captain advised that he would continue his taxi putting us in front of the DC9. When able, I notified ground that we were clear of all runways and would like to continue to our gate. Ground cleared us as requested and there appears to have been no conflict since the DC9 was still far behind us on taxiway north. Congested frequencys are an everyday problem that needs to be addressed. No problem was indicated.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WHILE ON THE GND IN BOS, A B737 FLC TAXIED AHEAD OF A DC9 THAT THEY HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW. THE FREQ WAS CONGESTED AND THE B737 WAS FAR AHEAD OF THE DC9, SO THE CAPT CONTINUED THE TAXI IN LIEU OF DELAYING AND THE FO ADVISED THE CTLR ON FREQ WHEN HE WAS ABLE TO XMIT.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG AT BOS RWY 4R, WE WERE CLRED TO TURN L ON RWY 33L THEN TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4L AND TAXI BEHIND OUR COMPANY DC9 APCHING ON TXWY N. WE ACKNOWLEDGED. AFTER BEING CLRED BY TWR TO CROSS RWY 4L AND FOLLOW THE COMPANY DC9 ON TXWY N AND SWITCH TO GND CTL, WE CROSSED RWY 4L AND WERE ON RWY 33L AWAITING THE DC9, BUT IT WAS STILL A SUBSTANTIAL DISTANCE TO OUR R, AND IT APPEARED STOPPED. SINCE WE WERE UNDER PWR TAXIING (AFTER XING RWY 4L) I TRIED TO CONTACT GND PER THE CAPT'S INSTRUCTIONS, TO ADVISE GND THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE OUR TAXI ROLL SINCE WE WERE FAR AHEAD OF THE DC9. GND CTL FREQ WAS VERY BUSY, SO THE CAPT ADVISED THAT HE WOULD CONTINUE HIS TAXI PUTTING US IN FRONT OF THE DC9. WHEN ABLE, I NOTIFIED GND THAT WE WERE CLR OF ALL RWYS AND WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO OUR GATE. GND CLRED US AS REQUESTED AND THERE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN NO CONFLICT SINCE THE DC9 WAS STILL FAR BEHIND US ON TXWY N. CONGESTED FREQS ARE AN EVERYDAY PROB THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. NO PROB WAS INDICATED.
