Narrative:
Departed ont VFR for fat. Socal approach approved VFR on course, we crossed directly over pmd on a heading of about 295 degrees then over wjf on about the same heading, the copilot and myself both felt we were clear of the restr area 2506 and the MOA bakersfield. The controller came on and said we were about to enter the restr area although the GPS indicated we were about 3-5 mi outside of the restr area. She suggested a 20-30 degree left turn to remain clear which we did, then a few mi later she said we were 'out' of the restr area and could resume our own navigation. We were confused because we were told to make the turn to remain clear. As I said the copilot and I both still think we were clear of the area as well as the GPS. In our capacity as a DOD contractor we enter this area all the time to go into edwards and china lake.
