Narrative:
On a VFR flight to put-in-bay airport, I came close to the national monument located 2 mi north of the field. I was paying too much attention to the runway, and not enough attention to how close I came to the monument/tower. Since the runway at put-in-bay is crooked, I wasn't sure it was a runway. Had I overflown the airport first, I wouldn't have been so distraction.
