Narrative:
Leveled at 3000 ft MSL and contacted departure. Departure issued climb to 16000 ft MSL, started climb and controller called back stating he showed us at 3600 ft, not 3000 ft. We replied that we were in the requested climb and now passing 3800 ft for 16000 ft.

Title: CLRNC MISCOM BTWN ATC AND FLC. FLC UNDERSTOOD TO CLB TO 16000 FT AND IT MUST BE ASSUMED THEY ANSWERED THAT CLRNC. WHEN CLBING THROUGH 3600 FT, DEP CTLR INTERVENED TO SEE WHY THEY WERE CLBING.
Narrative: LEVELED AT 3000 FT MSL AND CONTACTED DEP. DEP ISSUED CLB TO 16000 FT MSL, STARTED CLB AND CTLR CALLED BACK STATING HE SHOWED US AT 3600 FT, NOT 3000 FT. WE REPLIED THAT WE WERE IN THE REQUESTED CLB AND NOW PASSING 3800 FT FOR 16000 FT.
