Narrative:
Departed ord on runway 32LX and required deviations to remain clear of thunderstorms. At 6000 ft, 25 mi west of ord, given climb to 13000 ft. Captain initiated climb power and loud bang and spooldown of right engine occurred. Immediately notified departure control of engine failure and requested return to ord with all emergency equipment standing by. Completed checklists to extent possible prior to landing on runway 9R. At 145000 pounds gross weight APU flamed out on rollout, suspect due to water ingestion from large areas of standing water on runway and moderate to heavy rain falling. No further assistance was required.
