Narrative:
Just prior to push back at ord, forward entry door light was on. Captain called maintenance who advised him that the door light could be crew placarded. I rechked the door, reopening it to ensure the door was properly closed. The door was also checked from the exterior by ground personnel. After takeoff, we again examined the MEL and discovered the light was not a crew placard item. Our mindset at the time from maintenance and other aircraft past procedures was that it was a crew placard item. We were mistaken. The light went out after takeoff. The light was maintenance placard in las. Supplemental information from acn 337648: light stayed out for rest of trip until landing at las. It came on at touchdown. We did not placard, wrote it up as item a.

Title: AN ACR B757 CREW FLEW AN ACFT THAT NEEDED A PROB TO BE FIXED OR PLACARDED BY MAINT PERSONNEL. THEY PLACARDED IT THEMSELVES CONTRARY TO THE MEL.
Narrative: JUST PRIOR TO PUSH BACK AT ORD, FORWARD ENTRY DOOR LIGHT WAS ON. CAPT CALLED MAINT WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE DOOR LIGHT COULD BE CREW PLACARDED. I RECHKED THE DOOR, REOPENING IT TO ENSURE THE DOOR WAS PROPERLY CLOSED. THE DOOR WAS ALSO CHKED FROM THE EXTERIOR BY GND PERSONNEL. AFTER TKOF, WE AGAIN EXAMINED THE MEL AND DISCOVERED THE LIGHT WAS NOT A CREW PLACARD ITEM. OUR MINDSET AT THE TIME FROM MAINT AND OTHER ACFT PAST PROCS WAS THAT IT WAS A CREW PLACARD ITEM. WE WERE MISTAKEN. THE LIGHT WENT OUT AFTER TKOF. THE LIGHT WAS MAINT PLACARD IN LAS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 337648: LIGHT STAYED OUT FOR REST OF TRIP UNTIL LNDG AT LAS. IT CAME ON AT TOUCHDOWN. WE DID NOT PLACARD, WROTE IT UP AS ITEM A.
