Narrative:
Departing ont on the PRDO4 SID, the flight made a right turn to the first fix instead of the prescribed left turn. As the turn was begun, the direction of the turn was questioned by the PNF (captain). At that time due to the fact that the aircraft was already heading towards the terrain, the crew decided the prudent course of action to be to continue the right turn so as not to come any closer to the terrain. The terrain was in sight during the entire maneuver. The procedure was briefed prior to departure from the gate. During taxi out the PF (first officer) became disoriented as to which direction to turn. The so does not carry sids in their version of the fom. In closing, consideration should be given to providing the so with the sids. This captain will re-brief the initial turn and altitude for all departures at the beginning of the takeoff roll.

Title: FLC OF AN LGT TURNED THE WRONG WAY AFTER TKOF DURING A SID DEP DUE TO MISINTERP OF THE TURN TO THE FIRST FIX.
Narrative: DEPARTING ONT ON THE PRDO4 SID, THE FLT MADE A R TURN TO THE FIRST FIX INSTEAD OF THE PRESCRIBED L TURN. AS THE TURN WAS BEGUN, THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN WAS QUESTIONED BY THE PNF (CAPT). AT THAT TIME DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ACFT WAS ALREADY HEADING TOWARDS THE TERRAIN, THE CREW DECIDED THE PRUDENT COURSE OF ACTION TO BE TO CONTINUE THE R TURN SO AS NOT TO COME ANY CLOSER TO THE TERRAIN. THE TERRAIN WAS IN SIGHT DURING THE ENTIRE MANEUVER. THE PROC WAS BRIEFED PRIOR TO DEP FROM THE GATE. DURING TAXI OUT THE PF (FO) BECAME DISORIENTED AS TO WHICH DIRECTION TO TURN. THE SO DOES NOT CARRY SIDS IN THEIR VERSION OF THE FOM. IN CLOSING, CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO PROVIDING THE SO WITH THE SIDS. THIS CAPT WILL RE-BRIEF THE INITIAL TURN AND ALT FOR ALL DEPS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TKOF ROLL.
