Narrative:
Level at 9000 ft, with ny approach outbound to mht. Normal routing over hfd V229 gdm V106 mht. We requested a climb to 13000 ft. After a short wait the controller cleared us to climb to 13000 ft and proceed direct hfd direct mht. I acknowledged (read back) the clearance and he switched us over to ZBW. After hfd, ZBW cleared us down to 9000 ft and switched us over to bradley approach. A little while after we checked in with bradley, the controller called and asked where we were going. I told him direct mht. He said he was not aware we were cleared that way and reclred us back to the original routing. He then questioned us about when and from whom we received the clearance direct to mht. I explained it to him and that was all we heard of it.
